The Department provides further training for teachers of specialized subjects and vocational training for
foremen of secondary apprentice and vocational schools in Slovakia in connection with the needs and tendencies
of secondary vocational education and training and those of the labor market.
The aim of these educational activities is systematic deepening and broadening of professional and pedagogical
competencies of educators in line with the latest progressive knowledge, technological innovations, social
needs and requirements of teaching and professional practice. By its activities, it reflects the current
demands in relation to innovation of the contents of education and pedagogical documentation, eventually by
implementation of new trade and study branches into practice.
The Department supports educators at schools in obtaining new knowledge, skills and competencies by further
training through new progressive methods of learning like distance learning, e-learning; it monitors new
trends and facilitates the application of obtained knowledge in practice.
It realizes its activities by means of continuous training, specialized, innovative study, as well as through
implementation of domestic and foreign projects.
The Department coordinates and provides the development of specialized subjects textbooks for secondary
technical and secondary vocational schools in connection with school demands and in line with the Textbook
Development and Issuing Policy and in line with Competition Policy. It proposes the design of new textbooks
and provides for competition on the basis of textbook assessment criteria. It regularly organizes workshops
introducing new textbooks in the presence of authors and publishers.
